It’s time to meet one of the key members of the Flex Digital team in a sit-down with Rich, our resident music and Head of Digital.
Everyone at Flex Digital is talented at what they do, that’s a given. But they’re also a pretty smart bunch outside of the office too. In our new blog series, we’re going to be interviewing the team, so you can get to know them a little better.
What’s your working background, and how did you come to run Flex Digital?
My background is pretty varied, to be honest. I started with music — self-marketing and releasing some albums. Newicon, our mother company is owned by my brother, and he let me know that he needed some help with finances and office tasks. From there, I grew into the role of Business Development Executive and soon found my passion for digital marketing, eventually forming the digital marketing department, now known as Flex Digital.
Describe your job to a six-year-old.
I make sure that the colourful pages on your computer or mobile phone work well and can easily be found when you search for them.
What’s it like to work at Flex Digital?
I like working with a team of people who are approachable and happy to help. We’re a friendly bunch and a real mix of characters which always makes for an exciting day in the office! We’re an eclectic assortment of techies, designers and creatives, so there are a lot of skill-sets that complement one another.
What was your proudest moment at Newicon or Flex Digital?
I’m especially proud of the work I’ve done to help grow Flex’s digital department.
Since starting my business development role, I’ve been delighted to secure many large retainers.
Contracts and grown the team to 9 staff members with a number of great new product developments also being developed over the coming year.
Describe Flex Digital in three words.
Hmmm… Let’s go for passionate, driven and technical.
If you could switch jobs with anyone else at Flex, who would you swap with, and why?
I’d quite like to switch jobs with Ross who works on graphic and UX design, or Mark, our Digital Strategy Director. I think the way they work with design and brand projects and realise the best customer journey through design and user experience looks like a lot of fun. It’s something I’ve dabbled with in the past, and I’d love to learn more about.
Do you have any interesting or unusual hobbies?
I’m still actively playing music on the weekends and run a wedding band or two on the side which is good fun. Aside from that, I like the odd game of badminton and tennis — but I’m not an expert!
Favourite film/TV show?
One of my all-time favourites is The Last Samurai. I’m a total sucker for a classic sword-fighting film! I think my favourite thing about the movie is the film score by Hanz Zimmer. NERD alert: I’m a bit obsessed with music in films. It’s the main reason I count Avatar and the Dark Knight as favourites, too.
If you could time-travel, where would you go?
I think I’d go back to 19th Century Britain or America to see what life was like back in those days.
Who’s your celebrity doppelganger?
It’s got to be Stephen Merchant — especially with his Bristolian accent! When I was younger, I did get Daniel Radcliffe/Harry Potter a fair bit, too. I think it was the trendy round specs that did it…
Do you have any hidden talents, or is there an interesting fact about you?
I can clap with one hand…
